Matthew Spark

Matt Spark is Of Counsel with a practice focused on domestic and international patent prosecution, post-grant proceedings, and patent litigation support. Before entering the legal profession, Matt was a Member of the Technical Staff at Hughes Aircraft’s Space and Communications Group, where he designed wire harness subsystems and integrated them into spacecraft. His engineering background informs his patent practice and led him to pursue a career in patent law.

Following law school, Matt served as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined hundreds of patent applications. This experience provides him with practical insight into USPTO examination practices and procedures, which he applies in advising clients throughout the patent prosecution process.

Matt works across a broad range of technologies, including wireless communications, semiconductors and semiconductor fabrication, software and computer systems, digital imaging and video technologies, networking and telecommunications, virtual and augmented reality systems, medical devices, and consumer and industrial products. His experience also spans emerging and specialized technologies such as cannabis-related devices and extraction systems, energy-generating systems, RFID, automotive safety devices, and ornamental designs.
